Astro Gaming officially unleashes A30 & A40 PC editions, drops prices to $100 & $150

Astro Gaming officially unleashes A30 & A40 PC editions, drops prices to $100 and $150

Astro Gaming's A40 headset and Mixamp Pro have generally gotten yearly revisions, but the portability-inclined A30 hasn't received the same love since its inception. That's officially changed this week, as the company's announced its 2013 PC editions (standalone versions) of the A30 and A40 stereo headsets are now available. Although the new units began shipping with the company's Mixamp-packing Audio System bundles last November, this is the first time it's really blasting the airwaves about the A30's revision. Both editions feature re-tuned drivers touting better response for bass and cleaner output, along with a re-tooled approach to the quick disconnect cables and a new media cable with a revised inline remote and mic. The revised cabling setup allows 3.5mm cables to plug directly into the headsets, making for easier replacements and swapping (previous versions had you connect to a short cable hung from the earcup, with a dual-pole connector).

Perhaps best of all, the A30 is now priced thirty bucks less at $100 (finally!), while the A40's been reduced to $149 (down from $199). If you recently purchased one, don't fret either -- Astro also let us know that orders placed the 11th of this month have shipped out with the 2013 editions. Hit up the press release after the break for more info while deciding if one of 'em might be your new ticket to supreme gaming sound.

Auto Repair Ethics In Bouton ? Mckee Auto and RV Center

Bouton Auto Repair Ethics We?re going to be talking about the ethics of automotive repair in Bouton. Unfortunately, every profession has some bad actors that hurt the reputation of everyone else. It?s no different in the Bouton area.

In the automotive world, Bouton industry associations and ia professional licensing organizations are very committed to high ethical standards.

Yet some people are still uncomfortable with automotive service and repair in Bouton.

If we understand what?s recommended and the benefits of taking care of the work ? and the pitfalls of putting it off ? we?ll have more trust in the recommendation. So communication is key. It?s like going to the doctor. If she?s using medical jargon and takes a lot of basic medical knowledge for granted, we have a hard time following her train of thought. We understand It can be like that with your service advisor at Mckee Auto and RV Center, too. He?s so familiar with all things automotive, he may forget you don?t know a PCV from an EGT.

If you don?t understand what your doctor?s talking about: ask some questions. If you don?t understand what your Bouton automotive advisor at Mckee Auto and RV Center is talking about: ask some questions.

Let?s go back to those ethical standards. When we hear a repair recommendation, we always ask ourselves, ?Is this really necessary?? Well, here?s the industry standard:

If a Bouton auto technician tells you that a repair or replacement is required, it must meet one of the following criteria:

1. The part no longer performs its intended purpose;
2. The part does not meet a design specification;
3. The part is missing.

For example, it you take your car in for a grinding noise when you step on the brakes, you may just think you need new brake pads. After the inspection, the technician says that you have a cracked rotor and need to replace it. If you tried to get him to just put new pads on, he would say that if you didn?t want to replace the rotor, he would ethically have to refuse the repair. To just put pads on a cracked rotor would have been very wrong. The brakes could?ve failed at anytime: they needed to be repaired ? not just have a band-aid slapped on them.

Now, looking at something not so serious, Mckee Auto and RV Center may suggest repair or replacement if:

1. The part is close to the end of its useful life ? just above discard specifications or likely to fail soon;
2. To address a customer need or request ? like for better ride or increased performance;
3. To comply with maintenance recommended by the vehicle?s manufacturer;
4. Based on the technician?s informed experience.

Of course, Mckee Auto and RV Center has the burden of making ethical recommendations and properly educating their customers. For the customer, if you are uncomfortable with a recommendation, ask some questions. More information is always a good thing.

At Mckee Auto and RV Center in Perry ia (50220) we install quality NAPA replacement parts. Give us a call at 515.465.3564. To learn more about NAPA AutoCare, visit www.NAPAAutoCare.com.

Eat too much? Maybe it's in the blood

Wednesday, February 27, 2013

Bone marrow cells that produce brain-derived eurotrophic factor (BDNF), known to affect regulation of food intake, travel to part of the hypothalamus in the brain where they "fine-tune" appetite, said researchers from Baylor College of Medicine and Shiga University of Medical Science in Otsu, Shiga, Japan, in a report that appears online in the journal Nature Communications.

"We knew that blood cells produced BDNF," said Dr. Lawrence Chan, professor of molecular and cellular biology and professor and chief of the division of diabetes, endocrinology & metabolism in the department of medicine and director of the federally funded Diabetes Research Center, all at BCM. The factor is produced in the brain and in nerve cells as well. "We didn't know why it was produced in blood cells."

Dr. Hiroshi Urabe and Dr. Hideto Kojima, current and former postdoctoral fellows in Chan's laboratory respectively, looked for BDNF in the brains of mice who had not been fed for about 24 hours. The bone marrow-derived cells had been marked with a fluorescent protein that showed up on microscopy. To their surprise, they found cells producing BDNF in a part of the brain's hypothalamus called the paraventricular nucleus.

"We knew that in embryonic development, some blood cells do go to the brain and become microglial cells," said Chan. (Microglial cells form part of the supporting structure of the central nervous system. They are characterized by a nucleus from which "branches" expand in all directions.) "This is the first time we have shown that this happens in adulthood. Blood cells can go to one part of the brain and become physically changed to become microglial-like cells."

However, these bone marrow cells produce a bone marrow-specific variant of BDNF, one that is different from that produced by the regular microglial cells already in the hypothalamus.

Only a few of these blood-derived cells actually reach the hypothalamus, said Chan.

"It's not very impressive if you look casually under the microscope," he said. However, a careful scrutiny showed that the branching nature of these cells allow them to come into contact with a whole host of brain cells.

"Their effects are amplified," said Chan.

Mice that are born lacking the ability to produce blood cells that make BDNF overeat, become obese and develop insulin resistance (a lack of response to insulin that affects the ability to metabolize glucose). A bone marrow transplant that restores the gene for making the cells that produce BDNF can normalize appetite, said Chan. However, a transplant of bone marrow that does not contain this gene does not reverse overeating, obesity or insulin resistance.

When normal bone marrow cells that produce BDNF are injected into the third ventricle (a fluid-filled cavity in the brain) of mice that lack BDNF, they no longer have the urge to overeat, said Chan.

All in all, the studies represent a new mechanism by which these bone-marrow derived cells control feeding through BDNF and could provide a new avenue to attack obesity, said Chan.

He and his colleagues hypothesize that the bone marrow cells that produce BDNF fine tune the appetite response, although a host of different appetite-controlling hormones produced by the regular nerve cells in the hypothalamus do the lion's share of the work.

"Bone marrow cells are so accessible," said Chan. "If these cells play a regulatory role, we could draw some blood, modify something in it or add something that binds to blood cells and give it back. We may even be able to deliver medication that goes to the brain," crossing the blood-brain barrier. Even a few of these cells can have an effect because their geometry means that they have contact with many different neurons or nerve cells.

He credits Urabe and Kojima (now with Shiga University of Medical Science in Japan) with doing most of the experiments involved in the research.

ZTE Grand Memo preview: Destined to get lost in the phablet crowd

ZTE Grand Memo Hands OnZTE Grand Memo

One thing is quite clear: Samsung?s (005930) gamble on the 5-inch handset market is catching fire. Manufacturers seem to be scrambling to concoct their very own iteration of the ?phablet,? clearly attempting to capitalize on the newly forged market space created by the world?s largest Android manufacturer. Unfortunately, where Samsung led with innovation and foresight, most of these other companies seem to be playing a rather embarrassing game of catch up. Case in point is ZTE (0763).

[More from BGR: Samsung is just trolling us now, and it?s not alone]

The Grand Memo is ZTE?s flagship phone, sporting a quad-core Qualcomm chip (running at an undisclosed clock speed), 1GB of RAM, 16GB of on-board storage, and a 3,200 mAh battery. Lots of bells and whistles, with the requisite sensors and radios, and a rather impressive 13-megapixel rear facing camera. All running underneath a 5.7-inch TFT HD display. The display is not full HD, only 720p here, but its 257 pixels per inch provides a decent viewing experience.

[More from BGR: Another major security flaw discovered on iPhone [video]]

Great? but, nothing here to differentiate it from the pack of ?me too?s? running wild through the halls of Mobile World Congress. In practice, the phone is slick and responsive, though ZTE?s version of Android 4.1.2 seems to add more confusion than functionality. The manufacturer?s skin shoots deep into the OS, with almost every stock Android app replaced with some bizarre-looking ZTE variant.

The most useful customization comes in the form of ZTE?s mi-POP, a small set of basic controls that can be placed according to the user?s preference. Home, back, and menu keys, as well as a small keyboard and number pad make single-handed use a bit more practical, though holding a device of this size with one hand is never going to be convenient or comfortable. Aside from this small bit of thoughtful concession to the user experience, however, we couldn?t find much that warranted more than a passing glance.

The problem is not performance or hardware design. The phone looks fine and performs fluidly. But the market is close to buckling under the weight of these big phones, and there?s simply no reason, save for a few choice software customizations,?to opt for the Grand Memo over any other 5-inch-plus handset.

The ZTE Grand Memo will launch in China in March for an undisclosed sum. No plans for a U.S. release have been announced.

Mobile Nations at MWC 2013: Day one podcast

Fira de Barcelona

We've just wrapped up the first proper day of Mobile World Congress here in Barcelona, Spain, and there's been a lot of Android and Windows Phone developments to go around. From the Optimus G Pro to the ASUS Fonepad and PadFone, from Nokia's Lumia 520 to Lumia 720, there's a ton of mobile news out of the first day of MWC, so check out our day one podcast below.

Sony Xperia Tablet Z launching globally: 6.9mm thin, quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro and 1,920 x 1,200 display

Sony Xperia Tablet Z announced

Sony's newest tablet, known as the Xperia Tablet Z, launched in Japan last month, but it still hasn't been seen outside of the Far East. Mobile World Congress is the perfect venue to show it off to the entire world, it seems, as it's now expanding to other parts of the globe. As we had hoped, the super-thin Tablet Z doesn't wander off from Japan's variant spec-wise, though this model will offer your choice of 16 or 32GB internal storage, rather than simply the latter. (Sony also announced that a WiFi-only version with 64GB space will come to the US.) Otherwise, it still boasts Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, a quad-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU, 2GB RAM, a 6,000mAh battery, 8.1MP rear camera and 2MP front-facing cam, NFC, PlayStation Certified, four speakers and a 1,920 x 1,200 display.

Also, the MWC launch gives us a peek at a few minor details we didn't get in the first go-round: the slate includes MHL, up to 64GB of microSD expansion and DLNA, but oddly we haven't seen any specifics on battery size. And just like its cousin, the Z will come with Jelly Bean installed but Sony promises that 4.2 is on its way, though no ETA was given for the update. Finally, we won't hold back on the pricing and availability, even if we kept you in suspense until the end: the black model will be sold in Sony stores and authorized sellers this May, and the white model (which only comes in a 32GB flavor) will be exclusive to official company outlets. A 16GB will put you back $499 and 32GB will be $599. If you're up for a deeper look into the tablet, our hands-on is a great place to get started.

ADB president leading name for Japan central bank

TOKYO (AP) ? Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is preparing to nominate Asian Development Bank President Haruhiko Kuroda to head Japan's central bank and help spearhead moves to revive growth in the world's third-biggest economy, local reports said Monday.

Abe had been expected to announce the plan late Monday, according to NHK television and major newspapers, but prospects for an agreement appeared uncertain after a tentative plan for a news conference was called off. Top members of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party were meeting with the coalition New Komeito party and opposition party leaders to seek their support for the nomination, the reports said.

The current Bank of Japan governor, Masaaki Shirakawa, will step down on March 19, three weeks before his term ends. Abe intends to formally propose his replacement to parliament within this week so as to allow a smooth succession, said government spokesman Yoshihide Suga.

"The key is to return to the bold monetary policies advocated by the Abe administration," Suga told reporters at a routine briefing. "We need to create an environment in which we can pursue those Abe policies."

Kuroda, 67, is an Oxford-educated former vice minister of finance who is thought to back Abe's strategies for seeking to revive Japan's economy by fighting deflation through monetary easing and hefty government spending.

Kikuo Iwata, a professor at Tokyo's Gakushuin University, and Hiroshi Nakaso, an executive director at the BOJ, are due to become the bank's top two deputy governors, the reports said.

During his years as the country's top financial diplomat, Kuroda often objected to the yen's protracted rise against the U.S. dollar, saying it did not reflect the fundamentals of the economy.

As head of the Manila, Philippines-based regional lender ADB, he has sought to balance the bank's mission of poverty mitigation with Asia's economic ascent and growing financial heft. He also often has urged China to ease foreign exchange controls that link the Chinese yuan to the U.S. dollar.

Despite frequent central bank interventions in the currency markets, the yen continued its long-term ascent thanks to its status as a safe-haven, and low interest rates that encouraged an international "carry trade" of borrowing in yen and using the money to invest in the bonds of countries with higher interest rates.

Abe's support for a weaker yen has lifted share prices and spurred a further decline in the value of the Japanese currency, which has weakened by about 20 percent against the U.S. dollar since last fall.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 stock index surged 2.4 percent to 11,662.52 on Monday. The yen was trading near 94.25 to the U.S. dollar, after sliding to a more than three-year low of 94.71 earlier in the day.

Since taking office in late December, Abe has pushed through a raft of policies aimed at helping Japan escape from recession through heavy public works spending and other measures meant to restore sustainable growth. Japan's economy is struggling with the aftermath of the 2011 natural and nuclear disasters, rapid aging of its population and the biggest public debt burden among leading industrial economies.

After months of lobbying by Abe, even before the Liberal Democrats took power following a landslide win in a Dec. 16 election, the Bank of Japan joined with the government in setting a 2 percent inflation target. So far, massive asset purchases by the central bank and years of near-zero interest rates have done little to boost investment or hiring by corporations put off by slack domestic demand.

"Japan needs something dramatic to happen. They are stuck," said David Harvey, director of the Canberra, Australia-based consultancy Asia Financial Group. He described Kuroda as a "smart cookie."

Shirakawa has chafed at Abe's pressure for more aggressive action from the central bank, and Abe's strong stance on monetary policy has raised concern he may be violating the Bank of Japan's autonomy.

McCain: Obama should have Camp David budget summit

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Sen. John McCain says President Barack Obama should invite lawmakers to Camp David or the White House to hammer out a last-minute deal to avert deep budget cuts set to start taking effect at week's end.

The Arizona Republican says Obama should be talking with lawmakers instead of demonizing them over the looming across-the-board cuts in domestic and defense spending.

McCain calls the Pentagon cuts "unconscionable" and says military leaders are already warning they would be devastating.

McCain, the 2008 GOP president nominee, says it's time for Obama to show leadership and call lawmakers either to Camp David or to the White House for a budget summit.

McCain appeared on CNN's "State of the Union."

Syrian opposition says Assad cannot be part of deal

CAIRO (Reuters) - The opposition Syrian National Coalition is willing to negotiate a peace deal to end the country's civil war but President Bashar al-Assad must step down and cannot be a party to any settlement, members agreed after debating a controversial initiative by their president.

The meeting of the 70-member Western, Arab and Turkish-backed coalition began on Thursday before Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem is due for talks in Moscow, one of Assad's last foreign allies, and as U.N. mediator Lakhdar Brahimi renews efforts for a deal.

After an angry late night session in which coalition president Moaz Alkhatib came under strong criticism from Islamist and liberal members alike for proposing talks with Assad's government without setting what they described as clear goals, the coalition adopted a political document that demands Assad's removal and trial for the bloodshed, members said.

A draft document seen by Reuters that was circulated for debate said Assad cannot be party to any political solution and has to be tried, but did not directly call for his removal.

"We have adopted the political document that sets the parameters for any talks. The main addition to the draft is a clause about the necessity of Assad stepping step down," said Abdelbasset Sida, a member of the coalition's 12 member politburo who has criticized Alkhatib for acting alone.

"We removed a clause about a need for Russian and U.S. involvement in any talks and added that the coalition's leadership has to be consulted before launching any future initiatives," he added.

Still, the agreement marked a softening of tone by the coalition because previously it had insisted that Assad must step down before any talks with his government could begin.

In an indication that Syria's strongman remains defiant, Brahimi said Assad had told him he will remain president until his term ends in 2014 and then run for re-election.

Brahimi told al-Arabiya television he wants to see a transitional government formed in Syria that would not answer to any higher authority and lasts until U.N.-supervised elections take place in the country.

"I am of the view that U.N. peacekeepers should come to Syria as happened in other countries," Brahimi said.

BOMB, AIR STRIKES

The opposition front convened in Cairo on a day when a car bomb jolted central Damascus, killing 53 people, wounding 200 and incinerating cars on a busy highway close to the Russian Embassy and offices of the ruling Baath Party.

Syrian state television blamed the suicide blast on "terrorists". Central Damascus has been relatively insulated from the 23-month conflict that has killed around 70,000 people, but the bloodshed has shattered suburbs around the capital.

In the southern city of Deraa near the border with Jordan, activists said warplanes bombed the old quarter for the first time since March 2011, when the town set in a wheat-growing plain rose up against Assad, starting a national revolt.

A rebel officer in the Tawheed al-Janoub brigade which led an offensive this week in Deraa said there were at least five air strikes on Thursday. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 18 people were killed, including eight rebel fighters.

Coalition member Munther Makhos, who was forced into exile in the 1970s for his opposition to Assad's father, the late President Hafez al-Assad, said supplies from Iran and Russia were giving government forces an awesome firepower advantage.

"It would be surreal to imagine that a political solution is possible. Bashar al-Assad will not send his deputy to negotiate his removal. But we are keeping the door open," Makhos said.

Makhos is the only Alawite in the Islamist-dominated coalition. The Alawite sect, an offshoot of Shi'ite Islam which accounts for about 10 percent of Syria's population but makes up most of the intelligence apparatus and dominates the army and the political system, has generally remained behind Assad.

With Alawites feeling increasingly threatened by a violent Sunni backlash, Alkhatib, a cleric from Damascus who played a role in the peaceful protest movement against Assad at the beginning of the uprising in 2011, has been calling on Alawites to join the revolution, saying their participation will help preserve the social fabric of the country.

Alkhatib's supporters say the initiative has popular support inside Syria from people who want to see a peaceful departure of Assad and a halt to the war that has increasingly pitted his fellow Alawites against Syria's Sunni Muslim majority.

But rebel fighters on the ground, over whom Alkhatib has little control, are generally against the proposal.

The Syrian Islamic Liberation Front, which represents armed brigades, said in a statement it was opposed to Alkhatib's initiative because it ignored the revolt's goal of "the downfall of the regime and all its symbols".

"We are demanding his accountability for the bloodshed and destruction he has wreaked. I think the message is clear enough," said veteran opposition campaigner Walid al-Bunni, who supports Alkhatib.

Alkhatib formulated the initiative in broad terms last month after talks with the Russian and Iranian foreign ministers in Munich but without consulting the coalition, catching the umbrella organization by surprise.

Among Alkhatib's critics is the Muslim Brotherhood, the only organized group in the political opposition.

A Brotherhood source said the group will not scuttle the proposal because it was confident Assad is not interested in a negotiated exit, which could help convince the international community to support the armed struggle for his removal.

"Russia is key," the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity. "We are showing the international community that we are willing to take criticism from the street but the problem is Assad and his inner circle. They do not want to leave."

PLAY FOR RUSSIA

Russia hopes Alkhatib will visit soon in search of a breakthrough. Bunni said Alkhatib would not go to Moscow without the coalition's approval and that he would not be there at the same time as Moualem.

"In my opinion Alkhatib should not go to Moscow until Russia stops sending arms shipments to the Assad regime," Bunni said.

Formal backing by the coalition for Alkhatib's initiative gives it more weight internationally and undermines Assad supporters' argument that the opposition is too divided to be considered a serious player, opposition sources said.

Coalition members and diplomats based in the region said Brahimi asked Alkhatib in Cairo last week to seek full coalition backing for his plan, which resembles the U.N. envoy's own ideas for a negotiated settlement.

One diplomat in contact with the opposition and the United Nations had said a coalition approval of Alkhatib's initiative could help change the position of Russia, which has blocked several United Nations Security Council resolutions on Syria.

The diplomat said only a U.N. resolution could force Assad to the negotiating table, and a U.N. "stabilization force" may still be needed to prevent an all-out slide into a civil war.

"Brahimi has little hope that Assad will agree to any serious talks," the diplomat said. "Differences are narrowing between the United States and Russia about Syria but Moscow remains the main obstacle for Security Council action."

What Medicaid-Loving GOP Governors Have in Common

Florida Gov. Rick Scott is unique in that his entire political career has been centered on his opposition to Obamacare, and that made it surprising when he announced Wednesday he would accept federal funds to expand Medicare. But if you look at the realities that might have pushed him toward that position, he's not unique at all. Of the seven Republican governors who've embraced the Medicaid expansion, four are in states with very large Latino populations.?

RELATED: Florida's Rick Scott Signs on to Obamacare's Medicaid Expansion

There are a lot of reasons governors might embrace the Medicaid expansion, which gives coverage to people making up to 138 percent of the poverty line. With the Surpeme Court upholding it and President Obama reelected, Obamacare is the law of the land. It's a pretty sweet deal, too ? the federal government pays for 100 percent of the expansion for three years, then 90 percent after that. But it's hard not to notice a pattern among those who've betrayed the anti-Obamacare cause:?Scott,?New Mexico's Susana Martinez,?Nevada's Brian Sandoval, and?Arizona's Jan Brewer?all changed their position, and they're all in charge of states that rank in the top seven in the country by percentage of Latino population. (Two of the other top seven have Democratic governors; the real outlier is Texas's Rick Perry, who has stayed true to his brand and refused the Medicaid expansion.)?

RELATED: Romney Continues Ads Complaining About Obama's Bain Ads

What's the connection between Latinos and Obamacare? In his New York Times Magazine story?this week about the young conservatives trying to save the Republican Party from obsolensence, Robert Draper includes this fascinating statistic from President Obama's campaign manager, David Plouffe:

"Let me tell you something. The Hispanic voters in Nevada, Colorado and New Mexico don?t give a damn about Marco Rubio, the Tea Party Cuban-American from Florida. You know what? We won the Cuban vote! And it?s because younger Cubans are behaving differently than their parents. It?s probably my favorite stat of the whole campaign. So this notion that Marco Rubio is going to heal their problems ? it?s not even sophomoric; it?s juvenile!

And by the way: the bigger problem they?ve got with Latinos isn?t immigration. It?s their economic policies and health care. The group that supported the president?s health care bill the most? Latinos."

But that's not just Obama campaign spin.?Mitt Romney's campaign manager, Stuart Stevens, agreed when asked about the article on ABC's This Week:

"The greatest appeal that the Obama campaign had for Hispanic voters turned out to be ObamaCare. And they ran a tremendous amount of their advertising appealing to Hispanic voters. It was the only place in their advertising where they talked about ObamaCare, was into -- in it -- to the Hispanic community, because an extraordinary percentage of Hispanic voters are uninsured.

And that was smart politics. They did it well. The party was also known as the party that was against ObamaCare and that hurt us."

And suddenly Republican governors are talking about Medicaid beneficiaries as pretty swell people. Look at how these Republican governors have justified their acceptance of the Medicaid expansion using the very same reasoning Obama used: that we have a moral obligation to help the poor and vulnerable who get sick.

RELATED: Texas, Where 25% Are Uninsured, Opts Out of Medicaid Expansion

It's not that Republicans campaigned on hating poor people, something Florida Sen. Marco Rubio pushed back against in his response to President Obama's State of the Union address when he said Obama's "favorite?attack?of all is that?those who?don?t agree with him ? they?only care about rich people." But in the fight against Obamacare through the 2012 election, the health of individual poor people always was a lesser concern than preserving freedom from "socialized medicine," not creating incentives to be lazy, and protecting the country's fiscal health. Mitt Romney said 47 percent of Americans are dependent moochers. Paul Ryan said it was even worse.?"Right now about 60 percent of the American people get more benefits in dollar value from the federal government than they pay back in taxes," Ryan said. "So we're going to a majority of takers versus makers in America and that will be tough to come back from that. They'll be dependent on the government for their livelihoods [rather] than themselves."

RELATED: Boehner Dares to Touch the Third Rail: Social Security

Most of the Medicaid-loving Republican governors do not merely make some kind of budgetary case for taking the federal money. Instead, their hearts bleed for the suffering poor. Florida's Scott, for example, talked about his mother?in his announcement Wednesday. "I remember my Mom's heartbreak when she could not afford to give my younger brother the treatment he needed when we learned he had a hip disease," Scott said. "She eventually found him a Shriner's Children's Hospital hundreds of miles away? where my brother would go back and forth for treatment." Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, famous for sticking her finger in Obama's face, reminds voters that she still opposes Obamacare, but! "Let?s face it ??uninsured Arizonans get sick just like the rest of us..."

RELATED: Supreme Court Agrees to Hear Health Care Reform Case

New Mexico's Martinez explained that she made her decision on the basis of math, as well as that "We have an obligation to provide an adequate level of basic health care services for the most in need of our state." She said New Mexico would end the expansion if the federal government cut funding for it. But she justified that in touchy-feely terms. "In the event that we are faced with such a decision, we cannot allow our children who are most in need to go without health care services. If the federal reimbursement rate for Medicaid expansion is cut, we must protect our kids and protect our budget by ensuring that the most recent additions to the Medicaid program are the first ones moved off," Martinez said. Watch out: some of these bleeding hearts could be "the future of the GOP."

One Direction Return To The Studio, Says One Direction's Producer ...

Who needs time to develop artistically? Certainly not?One Direction! The boys?of 1D appear to be taking a page out of?Rihanna?s book by churning out music with unparalleled speed ? and as recently as last week, they were in the studio with producer Julian Bunetta?(who helmed tunes on their 2012 LP?Take Me Home?as well as their recent charity cover of ?One Way or Another?).

Helpfully, Bunetta mostly just stalled and treaded water when asked about their sessions: ?I was just with them last week in London ? hanging out, working on a few new things,? he told MTV News. ?So that?ll be fun.?

As for what?they were doing, he continued:??I can?t really say, but it?s gonna be pretty cool. I mean it?s just? I mean obviously we?re working on new music but they didn?t say what the new music is for. It might be for nothing. It might only be for my ears? or, it might be something that gets put out for the world to hear. I could just rent my ears out,? he joked.

Our money?s on a?Take Me Home?re-release, but they could just as easily drop an entirely new album. Fingers crossed for a concept album about?Harry Styles? relationship with?Taylor Swift.

'Bama brings on Cristobal as offensive line coach

Ex-FIU head coach and Miami assistant Mario Cristobal has been hired as 'Bama's offensive line coach.

Samuel Lewis/Icon SMI

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) -- Alabama has hired Miami Hurricanes assistant and former Florida International head coach Mario Cristobal as offensive line coach.

Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban announced Cristobal's hiring as assistant head coach on Wednesday, just over a month after Cristobal returned to his alma mater. Cristobal replaces Jeff Stoutland, another former Miami assistant who was hired by the Philadelphia Eagles on Feb. 8.

Cristobal spent the past six seasons as head coach at Florida International, which fired him after leading the program to two bowl appearances and the 2010 Sun Belt Conference title. He was hired as Miami's associate head coach and tight ends coach on Jan. 10.

The Miami native played for two Hurricanes national championship teams from 1988-92, worked there as a graduate assistant and was an assistant coach from 2004-06.

"He has an outstanding reputation as both a coach and a recruiter," Saban said. "He will be a great fit in our organization and I think our players will respond to his positive attitude and energy. This is a very important hire in terms of working with our offensive line and we feel fortunate that we were able to hire a coach of Mario's caliber."

Cristobal called it an "incredible opportunity."

The Tide, which recently won its third national title in four years, must replace All-America offensive linemen Barrett Jones, Chance Warmack and D.J. Fluker. Warmack and Fluker are skipping their senior seasons to enter the NFL draft.
